What does the Claude Agent SDK provide?

The Claude Agent SDK provides building blocks for running Claude-based agents with tools and context-management capabilities. It is useful when you need programmatic control over an agent workflow rather than only a chat interface. The application still owns its task design, permissions, evaluation, and operating environment.

What does the source say?

Anthropic’s SDK guide describes an agent loop around gathering context, acting, and checking work. SDK capabilities should be verified against current documentation rather than inferred from a product demonstration.

How can you apply this?

Define a narrow task that produces a local artifact from approved inputs. List the tools it needs and remove everything else. Run it with an incomplete input, a tool failure, and an instruction to act outside scope. Inspect its trace and resulting artifact before giving it access to shared systems. Write a short operating note that explains how to stop the run, revoke credentials, and remove temporary artifacts.

What should you watch out for?

Do not treat an SDK as a deployment or security policy. Sandboxing, credentials, logging, and intervention remain application-level decisions.
